What will we do when the floods come Mum?

, Prev Next

Late in 2008, my son and I were travelling in the car and during a news update a politician described the potential impact of global warming on our living conditions. The gist was that should we fail to take action, our climate will swing wildly between drought and flood.

When the update had finished a little voice from the back seat asked, ‘What will we do when the floods come Mum – get onto the highest building?’

I joined the 1 Million Women campaign so that a high building is not our only option! When my son is an adult I want to be able to look him in the eye and say ‘I did everything I could.’

1 Million Women is a campaign that aims to engage a million women living in Australia to take positive action on climate change. You don’t have to be an expert to get involved. Every woman that signs up is shown how to cut one tonne of CO2 pollution out of her life within a year – through a range of everyday activities. It’s actually much easier than it sounds.

Climate change is real, and it is transforming the way that we live so I really hope you will join me at www.1millionwomen.com.au.
