Getting a healthy kick start!

, Prev

You’ve thought about it, talked about it, and maybe even walked while talking about it, but now is the time, the new and improved you has to start now.

One of the most fascinating things about a health kick is getting started. When I have a new client one of the first questions I ask is ‘How long have you been thinking about it’? The responses are incredible ranging from 3 months to 10 years! Unbelievable. I can’t wait for someone to walk in and say ‘I thought about it yesterday and that’s why I’m here today’…. I’m going to give that person a gold star when they walk in!

There’s nothing easy about starting a new health regime. Do you remember how you felt when you came back from holidays and had to go back to work? Wasn’t easy was it? I definitely didn’t enjoy the first morning back when my alarm went off at 4:45am! BUT after three weeks I was back in the swing of things. Exercise is the same! In fact any habit is the same! We are creatures of habit and 80% of what we do is habit. It seems so hard…. but so was walking the first time you tried it and depending on your choice of activity on a Saturday night some of us may still find it challenging at times.

You need to prepare yourself for this, you need to realise that for the first three weeks are a mental battle and challenge for you to create new habits. You need to be strong and work through it, there is light at the end of the tunnel! Any new habit that you create is going to be tough to start, it’s said that it takes 21 days to create a new habit, so I want you to hold strong for 28 days (just to make sure it’s ingrained in you).

I can promise you that it will get easier, once the health wagon picks up pace it hits some serious speed but don’t become complacent because the brakes can bring the wagon to an almighty halt. If you’ve ever been involved in a busy stressful time you will know about it. 1 week of no training can easily turn into 1 month which turns into 1 year.

It’s completely natural and as long as you are aware of this you will know that there will be challenges and to be honest, if my clients are extremely busy at work or a little bit tired I’ll have them continue their exercise at the times (am/pm) they normally train, they’ll just reduce the intensity because as soon as they break those habits the health wagon has to start up again.

It’s important, to succeed with your health you need to create the habits, strengthen them and if by chance you fall off the health wagon jump back on before it gets away from you!

Good luck!
