A button-sized sticker is the latest snore-reducing device that is set to revolutionise bedrooms around the world.

The Provent filter is essentially a valve that does not affect breathing in but slightly inhibits breathing out through the nose. This increases pressure in the rest of the airway, helping to keep it from closing. Snoring caused by sleep apnoea is therefore reduced.

Snoring is relatively common, one-third of adults snore and one in 15 is affected by sleep apnoea, one of the main causes of snoring, the UK's Daily Mail reported.

Sleep apnoea occurs when the upper airway becomes blocked — muscles that normally hold the airway open relax during sleep, allowing the soft tissue to collapse. In some cases, patients can have this occur up to 100 times per night, making sleep not as pleasant as it should be.

Risk factors for sleep apnoea include being overweight or obese, because when lying down the excess weight around the neck place more pressure on the airway.

A range of treatments are often recommended including lifestyle changes (losing weight and cutting out alcohol), surgery and mouthpieces however it is this new treatment that has snorers (and their partners) excited.

Trials at the California Centre for Sleep Disorders and the University of Texas had positive results to share. Wearing the disposable filters cut snoring by 65 percent and subjects felt less sleepy the next day, the Daily Mail reported.

But it must be noted that there are restrictions to using the device. Manufacturers warn that Provent should not be used by patients who suffer from severe breathing disorders, severe heart disease, low blood pressure or acute upper respiratory inflammation or infection.

And there are other factors to bear in mind if you think you might want to try this device — patients must have Provent prescribed by a doctor and it's not cheap at around $125 for a 30-day supply.

would like to try the product please
Provent seems to be an exciting product in assisting people who snore not to snore. The cost of such a devce is prohibited at the stated price of $120.00 per month and would be out of reach of ordinary working class and pension 'snorers'. Hopefully these prices will come down when the product is in greater demand. I trust that this snoring prevention device is a goer and that it will be used by all snorers around the world in order to get a good night's sleep.
I have suffered from sleeping disorder for years now? Yes I would try this product out? I am the snorer in the family?
dont waste your money!!! you can get great anti snore pillows for $70, and they last for more than 30 days!!!! the only let down is that they are for back snorers only...side and stomach snorer will need to see a doctor... also they are an aussie design and aussie made not some yankee product
Don't we all snore at some time or another... and most people are affected by it... My partner snores all the time and I do when i've been drinking too much (on occasion)... so i would definately try this product... it's great to see that this issue is taken seriously... If my partners' snoring reduced and he got more and improved quality of sleeping, then i believe that it would also reduce his depression!!!
I would be keen to try this new item out to see if it would cut my snoring down as i have been told there are times when i'm asleep it sounds as if a locomotive is coming through the bedroom. My wife says she needs to go to bed at times at least 2 to 3 hours before me so that she can get at least a few hours sleep before i get in. Friends of ours have said that they thought the walls were being sucked in then blown out when i sleep, so yeah i guess i have a snoring problem which is my wife says is getting worse not better even though i have cut out drinking as well as most fatty foods so PLEASE HELP ME. thanks Jay
My Husband suffers from sleep apnoea as well as normal snoring and I have broken sleep every night due to this. We have tried sprays, tablets and pinkie rings all to no avail. The pinkie ring has been the most effective so far but he still snores quite a bit. Yes, we would try Provent. Anything for a decent nght's sleep!
I have suffered for years with sleeping and snoring problems. After 2 nose jobs and 2 throat cauterising operations, to widen my airways, I now wear a splint, as my jaw also dropped back when I sleep. The splint keeps my jaw forward and my airways clear. Yes a long road but worth every bit of pain. I now sleep like a baby, but silently. I wake up refreshed and have never felt better. Personally I think all these gadget remedies are nonsense. After trying some of them with no success whatsoever, as my problem was in my airway structure. I would do it all again, with the results that I have obtained.
I am assured I snore, though I am unaware of it and don't think it affects my sleep so much as my other half. I have asthma and probably wouldn't be able to use the product in any case, not to mention $125 for a 30 day supply is a bit rich. I am sure that can't be helped, but from the information provided I don't see this as a viable solution let alone a revolutionary solution for bedrooms around the world
