Question: What is thought field therapy and what is it good for?

Answer:
Thought field therapy (TFT) is an innovative therapy drawn from the fields of quantum physics, Chinese medicine and psychology, and it is said to help treat a range of mental health problems.

TFT is based on the work of American psychologist Dr Roger Callahan, who believed that negative emotions created blockages — or "perturbations" — in a person's energy field, and that treating these could help psychological problems.

TFT includes several techniques: first you "tune in" to a problem by thinking about it, then the practitioner taps your body in sequences of up to 40 energy meridian treatment points, similar to those used in acupuncture and acupressure. Eye exercises, humming and counting may also be used.

Therapists claim success in treating people with low-grade depression, phobias, anxiety, addictions, and pain conditions. Compared to conventional psychotherapy treatments, results can occur quickly. At present the research is mainly anecdotal. However, a Florida University study did show that TFT is helpful for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Only a few practitioners in Australia use this therapy. To find one, visit www.tftrx.com and www.naturaltherapypages.com.au.
