Not only have animals been harmed in fires, but in Queensland they have been rescued from flood waters. Here’s what you can do.
Pets
Prepare to take them with you. Have cages for cats and leads ready for dogs to ensure they don’t escape at the last minute.
Horses
Put them into open, eaten-down paddocks. Horses are known to be good at avoiding danger if given the room to move.
Livestock
Consider agisting out of a danger zone where practical.
Wildlife
If you find injured wildlife and are able to catch them, wrap them in a blanket or place them in a pet carry cage for immediate transport to the nearest vet, who will treat them and pass the wildlife on to a shelter for recovery.
