Luscious layer bars
INGREDIENTS

185g butter, melted
165g (1½ cups) crushed sweet plain biscuits
395g can sweetened condensed milk
100g (1¼ cups) shredded coconut
175g (1¼ cups) slivered almonds, toasted, chopped coarsely
250g dark choc bits
METHOD

1. Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan forced. Grease a 20cm cake pan and line the base and sides with baking paper.

2. Pour the butter into the pan and sprinkle with the biscuit crumbs. Use the back of a spoon to press the crumbs down evenly and firmly. Drizzle with the condensed milk, spreading with a spoon if necessary. Sprinkle with the coconut, then the almonds and then the Choc Bits. Press down firmly to level the surface of the slice.

3. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until browned lightly. Cool in pan.

4. Cut into bars to serve.

Suitable to freeze. Not suitable to microwave.

I thought 185gr butter was far too much for 165gr biscuits. is this really correct. Also after 40-45 mins in the oven, the choc bits do melt so the picture isnt really accurate. With the choc bits on top, its not easy to see if its 'browned lightly'. Look forward to your comments please.
This receipe couldn't have been more perfect for someone who doesn't own a muffin tray or a mix master. It was easier than 1-2-3. Only problem was cutting it up. I found the chocolate bits didn't stick as well as I hoped, creating a small disaster. I recommend possibly melting the chocolate and pouring it on top.
to Yumbo of Sydney - chocolate doesn't change shape unless you stir it etc. All the layers are put on then just cook as directed - I made this last night - it is fantastic and no mixing bowls!
I'm with nana - the photo looks like the choc bits haven't been baked (or they'd be melted!), so what goes in the oven? Do you sprinkle the choc bits on top after the base & condensed milk? Help!!!!!
I have used this recipe for ages it is fantastic, no messy bowl, no mixing just sprinkle and enjoy 10 out of 10
Everybodies arteries just started screaming for mercy!!!!
Do you put all the layers in the oven?? or is it just the biscuit base?
I tried the recipe very easy to make, which surprised me I'm not much of a cook, but I loved the recipe, I made it for friends one afternoon and gave a couple of them the recipe. Good one!
I made this last weekend (found the recipe on a can of condensed milk) and it was great! Scotch Fingers for the biscuit base worked well. Easy and great tasting - highly recommended!
