Honey prawn stir-fry
INGREDIENTS

800g green prawns, peeled and deveined, tails intact
2 tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tablespoon shaoxing wine
2 teaspoons cornflour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2cm piece ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
1 clove garlic, chopped
100g snow peas, tailed and cut in half lengthways
1 x 125g packet baby corn
4 green onions, cut into 4cm lengths
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

METHOD

Combine prawns, soy, wine and cornflour together; set aside to marinate as long as time permits.

Heat half of the oil in a wok and cook prawns in batches; remove and set aside.

Heat remaining oil and stir-fry ginger and garlic until just fragrant.

Toss through snow peas, baby corn and green onions and cook a further 2 minutes or until vegetables are just tender.

Return prawns and remaining sauce to the wok and cook for one minute or until hot.

Turn off heat and stir through honey and sprinkle sesame seeds.

Serve immediately with steamed jasmine rice.

Any ideas of what we can substitute the wine with?
MMM sounds delicious, but need to omit garlic and onions as we have people who have an allergy to sulphur, that is how I do all my cooking. But if some-one could streamline this method it would be great.
This is just rice wine - you can find it in your local supermarket or an Asian food store - costs about $2
you should b asble to find shaoxing wine at any bottle-o that does imported wines - dan murphy's usually has chinese wines.
Shaoxing wine is a chinese wine which can be bought at most asian food shops. Thks to mac, from sydney for the idea of maybe substituting shaoxing wine with dry sherry.
it's a wine used for cooking chinese food.. can find this easily anywhere in the world, especially in those oriental (chinese, vietnamese, thai) supermarkets.
Any Asian store will have them or you could use Mirin (same thing). If you happen to live somewhere without one just use cheap brandy, it works.
Sounds delicious and we have home grown snow peas. I will research and find out what shaoxing wine.
use dry sherry to replace shaoxing wine...it does the job.
I have no idea what shaoxing wine is what can you substitute it with and where do you buy that kind of wine anyway
