She's the feared and revered editrix of the US edition of Vogue. With her trademark bob and perma-sunglasses, she has the power to inspire fashion royalty on the one hand, and crush designers with the other.

For more than 20 years, Wintour has been at the helm of American Vogue, all the while never being seen in the same outfit twice! The September 2007 edition of Vogue was heralded as its biggest ever, and director RJ Cutler's The September Issue is based on the production of this issue.

The documentary takes us behind the scenes and into Wintour's lair: the New York offices of Vogue. The film shows some candid moments between Wintour and creative director Grace Coddington — some of whose beautiful images end up on the cutting-room floor — creating interesting viewing.

If you've read the book or seen the film, The Devil Wears Prada, you might recognise some similarities between Wintour and Miranda Priestly, the feared editor in The Devil. This is mostly because author Lauren Weisberger, the author of the novel, was once an assistant of Wintour's.

Having worked in the 'Rag Trade', I believe in the end it's about people's jobs in the industry.The importance attached to her is questionable , because good designers will sell their creations despite her opinions!
Fashion should always be fun. Even as a mega-industry, it should never be taken seriously. So why do fashionistas take themselves so seriously? Wintour is one such - she oozes self-importance and arrogance. Sure, she's stylish - at any cost. No thinking human would stoop to wearing fur for the sake of style. I think it exposes Wintour's intellectual and spiritual limitations and a disturbing level of self-absorption.
I knew nothing of this woman and so Wikipedia'd her. I found the stories simply intriguing in the way Anna chooses to do things. I admire her work ethic and dedication however not the relationship, or lack thereof, to her subordinates and colleagues. I admire that she knew what she wanted and what she was good at. I don't always like what she wears, however she is older and she shows her own 'style' in that. I don't agree with the fur, and feel Anna continues to wear this perhaps out of spite. She is a strong willed woman at the worst of times and to be hounded not to wear fur has only made her dig her heels in. However a woman of such a fashion magazines should know that that is no excuse and what people want, fur is not fashion, it hasn't been for decades. Would I spend the money to see the film - no, but I would be interested in seeing it on DVD.
Firstly, I find so called "celebrity fashionastas" who perpetually wear sunglasses, day or night look ridiculous and standoffish. Perhaps she is hiding some insecurities? As for her love affair with wearing fur, she obviously has absolutely no empathy with the innocent and vulnerable animals that were bludgeoned to death. No matter how well dressed she may be, wearing a dead animal as a fashion statement, revolts me and she should be ignored (which I suspect is her greatest fear) by the fashion industry for it. She also comes accross as a cold, hard btch, not to mention joyless.
I work in the fashion industry and have done for most of my life as both a designer and manufacturer. I find Anna wintour and in particular most of the industry as not being very inspiring to me. I dislike the whole aspect of "Fashion" with the what's hot and what's not kind of mentality. Fashion is simply not important in the grand scheme of things. Beauty, art and style are important and leave a lasting legacy. I'm very happy to not be on the treadmill of "the latest trends" and fads as a designer.
I think the use if fur in fashion is unneccessary. Animals are bred and killed simply for our vanity and that is inexcusable. I have no problem with any people hunting and killing animals for food and then using the fur as well to keep warm in extreme conditions but in most cities and countries this is not required. Any form of hardship, cruelty, exploitation is not acceptable for vanity.
My personal opinion, her clothes are okay but nothing is particularly nice, her hairstyle is bad that bob doesn't suit her at all. The fact that someone who is okay dressed at best and has a bad hairstyle is making fashion decisions for the rest of us is crazy. If she likes Gwen Stefani's style this enforces even more to me that Anna doesn't have a clue Gwen Stefani is one of the worst dressed celebs and additionally her hair is way too peroxide blonde, Gwen Stefani is one of those who thinks she is totally hot but is so-so. Oprah Winfrey is extremely well dressed I love nearly every outfit she wears and she always look gorgeous at any weight, so if this anorexic averagely dressed woman Anna Wintour is making fashion decisions must be one of the reasons I don't buy Vogue or all these other pretentious fashion magazines with poor dressed anorexic models!
I see someone like Anna as somebody who should be considered an antique by the world. She stands for so many things that have wonderful wrapping, but once opened are empty. She is in many ways a symbol of all that is wrong with our world. She is obsessed with looks and superficialities, doing a job with prestige that doesn't do anything to improve the world, which only increases discomfort amongst women, that they should look a certain way. She drapes herself in fur, which shows how far above her environment she regards herself to be. She is not a hero for anything...
Me and my daughters saw it and thought it was stunning. The 14 year old enjoyed it the most! It gave us an insight what really goes on behind the beautiful magazine we love buying. She is really one special, dedicated and massively talented women! Just luved it.
