Today, August 3rd 2009, 300 Sydneysiders stepped out of the bathroom and into Martin Place to mark the start of the Australian Dental Association’s Dental Health Week by taking part in the Oral-B Power Brushing Record, an Australian record attempt for the most number of people power brushing in one place.
Sydney was abuzz with crowds of people flocking to Martin Place from as early as 5.30am for the chance to participate in the first ever power brushing record attempt.
One of Australia’s favourite smiles, Toni Pearen and TV medical expert, Dr Andrew Rochford, co-hosted the event which officially got underway at 10.30 this morning. According to Toni Pearen, “the Oral-B Power Brushing Record has been enormously successful in terms of raising awareness for dental health. The turnout has been fantastic and I can honestly say that I’ve never had so much fun brushing my teeth.”
Dr Rochford was also pleased to see so much interest in the event, “with dental health being such a big issue in this country, it was great to see so many people thinking about how they should be caring for their teeth using a power toothbrush”.
The Oral-B Power Brushing Record was also supported by the Australian Dental Association. The Australian Dental Association representative Dr Stella Karakasi, who attended the event, commented, “the ADA was pleased to support this great initiative which was a fantastic way to raise awareness of the benefits of oral health during The Australian Dental Association’s Dental Health Week.”
Perhaps the person with the biggest smile at the end of the two minute record event was power brushing fanatic Jessica Qiu, who took home $5,000 cash. Jessica commented, “I came here today to join in the fun but never expected to take home the prize money. It’s certainly put a smile on my face this morning – thank you Oral-B!”
The Oral-B Power Brushing Record Event marked the beginning of the Australian Dental Association’s Dental Health Week and also served as a great opportunity to raise awareness for the Clown Doctors program, with Oral-B donating $3 on behalf of each person who participated in the event.
