Mum's the word: amateur mummy bloggers help women stay connected

In the past few years, the blogging boom has given voice to anyone with an internet connection and a desire to share their passions. In particular, previously disenfranchised mums have discovered an outlet for their creative energy while at the same time connecting an entire demographic of often isolated stay at home mums.

And while most of us are familiar with some high profile (often commercial) mummy bloggers, there are many other examples of everyday mums who are just as capable of providing hilarity, astute parental insights, invaluable tips - or even just a thread for comment.

Here’s our pick of some of the best (and relatively undiscovered) mummy bloggers:

1. Woogsworld

We dare you not to laugh out loud as you peruse Mrs Woog’s musings about family, food and other domestic pursuits. Don’t miss her hilarious Parenting 101 series, “where I develop a theory, test it, measure it and report on ways that you can cut corners and cut guilt out of your own parenting journey.” From passive-aggressive bribes to tricking your kids when you’ve screwed up, she helps you win every parenting battle. Woogsworld’s tagline, “Making the most of the mundane”, couldn’t be further from the truth – there’s never a dull moment in Mrs Woog’s life.

2. Hotly spiced

Charlie Louie is a mum of three who likes names beginning with “A” – her kids are Archie, Arabella and Alfie – and food. Her mouth-watering recipes are peppered with her own beautiful photography and entertaining accounts of her family’s adventures. Trawl through her recipe archives, which are filed under a vast array of categories, from “Baking” and “Brunch” to “Vegetarian”, “Gluten-free” and even “Recipes from the Titanic”.

3. Where's my glow?

Glowless – or Glow for short – started her blog in 2009 when she was pregnant with her son “Tricky” and wondered when the heck the “pregnancy glow” she’d been promised would arrive. “Bags under the eyes, unbrushed hair and the faint scent of baby spew” is her slogan, and she regales us with hysterical posts like “How to handle a toddler tantrum - a pictorial tutorial”. She also provides yummy recipes and helpful tips like “How to make a kid’s kitchen out of cardboard boxes”.

4. Baby Mac

Meet Beth. Just Beth. She lives in the country south of Sydney with her husband and two daughters and she truly has a way with words – read her bio page and you’ll be instantly hooked! Her beautifully pared-down blog features stunning photos and posts about everything from the proper way to put sheets on a bed to her anxiety about her daughter’s tonsil operation. She also provides a wealth of delicious recipes illustrated with tantalising photos.

6. Potty mouth mama

Sydney mum of two Lexi is PottyMouthMama, and her blog relays “the misadventures of a modern-day mama”. Not only does she post about family stuff like trips to the Easter Show and school holiday boredom busters, but she also keeps busy mums up to date on the latest fashion trends, red-carpet looks, movies and music. She’s clever, fun and guaranteed to brighten your day.
