Home hair help... for less

Few people are happy to go without hair colouring treatments as they age, particularly if they want to cover greying hair. However, professional salon colours can cost from $100 to $300. Try these three simple steps.

1. Invest in a home hair colour such as Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Permanent Hair Colour Cream, $16.

2. Buy salon quality colour care shampoos at supermarkets or cut-price beauty outlets. We like Tresemme Colour Thrive Brunette Shampoo with Cinnamon & Cocoa Bean extracts, 900ml, $12 each.

3. When styling hair at home, always remember to alternative colour shampoos with those designed for heat styled hair. This will help protect against thermal damage. Try Dove Therapy Heat Defence Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner, 300ml, $6 each for heat-styled hair.

I use Loreal Paris, Casting Creme Gloss 454 Brownie. 28 washes. This colour is perfect and my hair has the best shine and red tones. Soft and silky shimmering tones. Best of all it was only $5.99 at one of those bargain shops instead of $12.00. Sandy
After many years of hairdressers fees I decided to yesterday try a home color. After the application I realised why so long ago I had vowed never to use one. Cheap and nasty is as cheap and nasty does. Now the process which will take quadruple the original fee, to get it to something elegant.
I feel comfortable with a home hair colour treatment who would spend a $100. or more for the same result. DIY for me Judy
I like to find the dates of this month for haircutting and waxing thank you.
