There used to be a rule that as soon as you turned 40, long hair was a no-no.

Shorter hair was said to give you a sassier, smarter look, which would take years off your face. But these days, long hair can work on any age – it just takes a little know-how.

Says Richi Grisillo, “Age makes no difference to hair style or length – it really comes down to personal style and having the confidence to pull off a certain look.

Sonia Cotroneo agrees that, “Both long and short hair looks great on older women – age makes no difference to the length of hair.

I am 54 yo, have long hair tinted to cover grey with foil highlights, a month ago my son got married, so I had loose curls and hair hanging over to one side with a black satin crystal studded hairband with a matching outfit of antique gold long length suit, comment made I looked 30yo. I can forward photo if anyone would like to view.
I really don't like looking at grown women with their faces wrapped in dangling or floating hair ... as in your illustration for this article. Tie it back. If you are too old for that then get it cut. It is not just an age thing, as a teacher, I am also against children with hair they are constantly playing with or adjusting. Braid it, plait it or tie it in a pony tail so that the mind can engage with other things.
I'm 44 and have long hair! I always said when I start to go grey I would change but no greys yet! I still look fab and without all the help that Elle McPherson and Demi Moore get! All power to the yummy mummy!
i once used to think that long hair was for the younger, but now that i am 54 i agree what ever bursts your bubble, i now belive if you are comfortable with it go for it. why not have fun enjoy. thanks suzanne,
Fast approaching 70yo, hair almost white, huge deep hole in the scalp (down to bone) from Melanoma operation, I am perplexed on how to style my hair in a way I can manage at home and keep the scar covered and private. Currently I have it long, pulled up and back and sort of twisted and held in place with a slide clip, but I am not happy with this look. Can anyone suggest a style.
